Renewal of vows

Photo © Hilary Wardhaugh Photography Because She Would Ask Me Why I Loved Her

"If questioning would make us wise
No eyes would ever gaze in eyes;
If all our tale were told in speech
No mouths would wander each to each.

Were spirits free from mortal mesh
And love not bound in hearts of flesh
No aching breasts would yearn to meet
And find their ecstasy complete.

For who is there that lives and knows
The secret powers by which he grows?
Were knowledge all, what were our need
To thrill and faint and sweetly bleed?

Then seek not, sweet, the "If" and "Why"
I love you now until I die:
For I must love because I live
And life in me is what you give.

- Christopher Brennan

It is a magnificent feeling to affirm again, vows made long ago - to experience the rightness of a choice made once again.

Couples often choose to renew their marriage vows on significant wedding anniversaries. Others choose a date meaningful to them in other ways, to celebrate a reaffirmation of vows. All who love enjoy its affirmation, and many choose to do so with the magic of ceremony.

Whether it be to give social recognition to an overseas or otherwise private wedding or whether it is to honor a lifelong partnership, a ceremony, with its poetry, prose, ritual and symbols, we can create a time and space, in which we touch our souls with commitment and love, and what Wordsworth described as "the overflow of powerful feelings" - certainly, you can make this Reaffirmation "Day of Choice" a magnificent celebration of life and community!
